On November 30, 2020, Ambassador Carwile attended a flower-laying ceremony at the Rumbula Forest Memorial in memory of the victims of the Riga Ghetto prisoner massacre. Rumbula is one of the largest mass killing sites of Jews in Europe. On November 30 and December 8, 1941, the Nazis killed more than 25,000 Latvian Jews from the Riga Ghetto and approximately 1,000 German Jews transported by train to Rumbula forest.
