Books Are Still Cool!

Hello all avid readers. March is Women’s History Month and hence, we have chosen a Pulitzer Prize winning novel written by America’s first female recipient of the Nobel Prize for Literature. Pearl Buck’s The Good Earth!!! This is our guest speaker’s favorite book of all time and he is ready to share his insights and its importance with you.

Guest speaker: Matīss Kukainis, born in the United States, now practices law here in Latvia and also teaches law at RISEBA.

What’s in it for you?
  • A free copy of the book, yours to keep, and an opportunity to discuss its contents with other avid readers in English!
How to participate:
  • Be among the first eight people to email ircriga@state.gov and provide your name, email, and phone number.
  • If you are one of the first eight, you will receive a reply from me, Nils, and then you can pick up your book at the JFK Reading Room at the Latvian National Library Monday to Friday, or the shop Art Nouveau Riga, Strēlnieku Iela 9 from 11:00 to 18:00 daily, including Sat. & Sun. But you have to pick it up by the 3rd of March.
  • Read the book!
  • On Thursday, the 30th of March at 18:00 meet with the group at the John F. Kennedy Reading Room in Latvian National Library, Mūkusalas Street 3, 3rd floor and be ready to participate in open and informal discussion. Refreshments will be served!
