Riga, November 14, 2016 – Charge d’Affaires Sharon Hudson-Dean will make an official visit to Ludza and Rēzekne on November 14-15. In Ludza on Monday, Hudson-Dean will meet with Ludza Mayor Alīna Gendele and present Latvia’s State Border Guards with 90,000 euros worth of equipment during a ceremony at Ludza Aviation Center.
Latvian border guards will receive five pairs of Generation 3 Monocular night-vision goggles, five handheld thermal imaging cameras, and three contraband team inspection kits that will help improve the border control systems. The equipment is being donated as part of the U.S. Export Control and Related Border Security Assistance program, which is led and funded by the Department of State’s Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation, Office of Export Control Cooperation. U.S. Embassy Riga is currently working on developing and funding upcoming training and exchange programs for Latvian officials working in export and customs.
In Rēzekne on Tuesday, Charge d’Affaires Sharon Hudson-Dean will meet with Rēzekne Region Mayor Monvids Švarcs and talk to the students at Rēzekne Highschool Nr. 6.
