The U.S. Embassy in Latvia supports English language training because it strengthens connections between the United States and Latvia, expands access to local and global employment, and enables access to academic and professional exchange opportunities in the United States.

Below are free online resources for strengthening English instruction.

The OPEN Program offers free Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), which are open to an unlimited number of participants. Some MOOCs are 5 weeks, and some are longer. MOOCs include “English for STEM,” “English for Media Literacy for Educators,” and “Professional Development for Teacher Trainers.”

Canvas Network provides educators with lifelong learning and professional development through open, online courses, taught by experts and institutions worldwide.

Civic Online Reasoning from Stanford University provides free lessons and assessments that help you teach students to evaluate online information that affects them, their communities, and the world. There are online courses such as “how to find better information online,” and “Sort fact from fiction with lateral reading.”

Voice of America has a large selection of learning tools and teaching resources, including current events, science, health, etc.

American English offers engaging and free materials, including lesson plans, stories, music, games, and more.
