About the artist: After becoming a freelance photographer for Life magazine, Mark Shaw photographed numerous actors, politicians, and other celebrities in over one hundred assignments. In 1959, Life chose Shaw to photograph Jacqueline Kennedy while her husband, then-Senator John F. Kennedy, was running for President. This assignment and their subsequent friendship would lead to Shaw becoming the Kennedys’ de facto family photographer and producing many of his most famous photographs of the couple and their children.
