Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs John A. Heffern to Visit Latvia

Riga, April 24, 2015 – The U.S. State Department’s Deputy Assistant Secretary (DAS) for the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs John A. Heffern will visit Latvia on April 27 for meetings with Latvian government officials at the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Economics as well as with experts from the energy, banking, and entrepreneurship sectors. During his visit, DAS Heffern will also meet with participants of the Central Asia program on Law and Economics at the Riga Graduate School of Law. This is DAS Heffern’s first official visit to Latvia.

A career member of the Senior Foreign Service, John A. Heffern assumed his current position in February 2015. Previously, he served as the U.S. Ambassador to Armenia 2011 – 2014. His prior assignments include Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) at the United States Mission to NATO and at the United States Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia, and Executive Assistant to the Under Secretary for Political Affairs.
