Riga, May 20, 2015 – The world’s oldest collegiate a cappella group, the Whiffenpoofs from Yale University, will visit Latvia May 23-25. The singing group will provide free performances in Talsi on May 24 and Riga on May 25, with the support of the U.S. Embassy Riga.
The Whiffenpoofs will visit Talsi on Sunday, May 24 to perform at the Talsi Cultural Center’s Creative Yard (Talsu Tautas nama Radosa seta; Liela iela 19/21) at 2 pm in a joint concert with the Talsi female choir Vaiva. On Monday, May 25 at 7 pm, the Whiffenpoofs will sing at St. Saviour’s Anglican Church Riga (Anglikanu iela 2). The Chamber Choir Riga and conductor Gunta Malēvica also will perform with the American singing group.
Every year since 1909, 14 senior Yale men are selected to be in the Whiffenpoofs, whose repertoire features a diverse selection of songs, ranging from traditional Yale songs to original compositions to hits from every decade. The Whiffenpoofs have performed at a number of venues, including the Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and the White House.
