U.S. Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch and Homeland Security Department Deputy Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to Visit Latvia

Riga, June 1, 2015 — U.S. Attorney General of the Department of Justice Loretta E. Lynch and Deputy Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas will visit Latvia, June 2-3 to participate in the EU-U.S. Justice and Home Affairs Ministerial Meeting hosted by the Latvian Minister of Interior and Minister of Justice.

In addition to the EU-U.S. Ministerial, U.S. Attorney General Lynch will visit NGO Safe House on June 2. Together with Latvian Justice Minister Dzintars Rasnačs, she will meet with Safe House representatives to learn about their efforts and tour the facility. Following these meetings, she and Minister Rasnačs will hold an open press ceremony to recognize the importance of Safe House’s work in combatting human trafficking and the contributions of Safe House’s lawyer Gita Miruškina who is the U.S. Embassy’s nominee for the Department of State Trafficking in Persons Report 2015 Hero Award.

On June 3, Deputy Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas will meet with Latvian Interior Minister Rihards Kozlovskis.
