USS Donald Cook Visit to Rīga

Riga, April 18, 2016 – On Tuesday April 19, the Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Donald Cook (DDG-75) will arrive in Riga, Latvia for a scheduled port visit. The port visit serves to enhance U.S.-Latvian relations as the two nations work together for a stable, secure and prosperous Baltic region and Europe. The ship’s presence in the Baltic Sea is a demonstration of our continued commitment to the collective security of NATO under Operation Atlantic Resolve. Sailors from the USS Donald Cook will participate in an outreach project at the Līgatne Dabas Takas nature reserve on April 20.

Media are invited to participate in two events during the port visit:

  • On Wednesday, April 20, USS Donald Cook will offer a media tour of the ship from 10:00 to 11:00. Media representatives and photographers must apply in advance. Please contact the Embassy Public Affairs Section by 14:00 on Tuesday, April 19, to be considered. Late RSVPs will not be accepted. Round-trip transportation to the pier will be available; exact location in Sarkandaugava will be sent to selected media representatives.
  • On Wednesday, April 20, sailors from the USS Donald Cook will participate in an outreach project at the Līgatnes dabas takas nature reserve. Members of the crew will install renovated trail and exhibit signs.
