Riga, July 5, 2016 – On Monday July 4, the U.S. Sixth Fleet Flagship, USS Mount Whitney (LCC-19) arrived in Rīga, Latvia for a scheduled port visit. The port visit serves to enhance U.S.-Latvian relations as the two nations work together for a stable, secure and prosperous Baltic region and Europe. The ship’s presence in the Baltic Sea is a demonstration of the U.S. commitment to the collective security of NATO under Operation Atlantic Resolve. Sailors from the USS Mount Whitney will also participate in a community outreach project at the Junda Youth Center in Jelgava on July 6.
