If you reside in Latvia and have questions regarding services provided by the Social Security Administration (SSA), you must contact the SSA Federal Benefits Unit (FBU) located in Poland. If you are already receiving SSA benefits payments, there will be no change in the method of distribution of those payments.
All SSA benefits issues for Latvia are handled by the Federal Benefits Unit (FBU) located in the U.S. Embassy Warsaw, Poland. If you require assistance with the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Office of Personnel Management, the Railroad Retirement Board or the Department of Labor, you need to contact directly their offices.
The FBU can help you with variety of issues such as:
- Filing a claim for benefits
- Applying for a Social Security Number
- Reporting a change of address
- Reporting a change of Direct Deposit
- Reporting a missing payment
- Reporting the death of a beneficiary

NB: The U.S. Embassy in Riga is a “non-claims taking post,” meaning that for almost any Social Security issue, the most we can do if you contact us is refer you to the FBU in Warsaw.
