Riga, August 24, 2017 – On Friday, August 25, the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer USS James Williams (DDG-95) will arrive in Riga, Latvia for a scheduled port visit. The port visit serves to enhance U.S.-Latvian relations as the two nations work together for a stable, secure and prosperous Baltic region and Europe. The ship’s presence in the Baltic Sea is a demonstration of our continued commitment to the collective security of NATO. Sailors from the USS James Williams will participate in several outreach projects at the Brukna Manor, Zvannieki Alternative Family Home and St. Luke’s Society throughout August 25-28.
Media are invited to participate in three events during the port visit:
- On Friday, August 25, sailors from the USS James Williams will participate in a community outreach project at the country manor house (Brukna manor) rehabilitation center and commune.
- On Sunday, August 27 sailors will cut and stack firewood at the Zvannieki Alternative Family Home. U.S. Embasssy Riga Deputy Chief of Mission Paul Poletes will also visit Zvannieki and participate in the community outreach project.
- On Monday, August 28 sailors will complete the deconstruction works of non-loadbearing walls at the St. Luke’s Society in Riga.
