A non-immigrant visa is required by anyone seeking temporary admission to the United States who is not eligible to travel visa free under the Visa Waiver Program (ESTA) or is traveling to the U.S. for a wide variety of reasons, including tourism, business, medical treatment, study, research and certain types of temporary work. The type of visa needed is defined by immigration law, and relates to the principal purpose of your travel.
The purpose of your intended travel and other facts will determine what type of visa is required under U.S. immigration law. As a visa applicant, you will need to establish that you meet all requirements to receive the category of visa for which you are applying. If you are a U.S. Government-sponsored exchange visitor or official traveler representing international organization or your national government, please click here for information on visas for fee exempt applicants.
